Additional information

Syria's 1929 coinage program was developed under the French Mandate authority, with essais — official trial strikes — produced in Paris to secure design approval before committing to full production runs. The Mandate administration maintained tight control over monetary policy, and these pattern pieces served as much a bureaucratic function as a technical one.

KM#E5 is among a small series of essais from this year that saw extremely limited striking, almost certainly never exceeding a few dozen pieces.
