| Obverse description | Central field features a large circular cartouche bearing the royal tughra (cipher) of Mohammed Zahir Shah rendered in elaborate Arabic calligraphy. The legend افغانستان (Afghanistan) appears above the cartouche in Arabic script. Additional honorific Arabic inscriptions arc around the lower portion of the field, referencing the king's titles and reign. The overall design is executed in a traditional Islamic calligraphic style characteristic of Afghan royal coinage of the mid-twentieth century. |
