Issued to mark Prince William's 40th birthday in June 2022, this coin arrived at an awkward moment in royal public relations — the Prince and Princess of Wales had recently stepped back from senior duties alongside Harry and Meghan's departure, and the Palace was actively managing the monarchy's image ahead of what would become a transitional year following the Queen's death in September. The Royal Mint nonetheless committed to the commemorative program months in advance.
