The 2007 quarter-sovereign bullion issue sits within a program the Royal Mint expanded aggressively during the mid-2000s as gold spot climbed toward then-historic highs, pulling in buyers who wanted fractional exposure without the premium weight of a full sovereign. Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced in 1998, was already nine years into circulation by this striking — making this one of the later dates in that portrait's bullion run before the fifth effigy took over in 2015.
