Obverse description Uncrowned right-facing effigy of King Charles III, modelled by sculptor Martin Jennings, occupying the central field with fine portrait detail in the hair and facial features. The bust is bare-headed and truncated at the shoulder, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field. The peripheral legend reads CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 25 POUNDS, disposed around the upper arc, with the date 2024 along the lower arc. The engraver's initials MJ appear discreetly below the portrait near the truncation.

Additional information

Part of the Royal Mint's ongoing Star Wars licensing arrangement with Disney/Lucasfilm, this issue belongs to a broader collector series rather than any monetary policy decision — it will never circulate and was priced well above face value from the moment of release. The Mint has leaned heavily into entertainment franchises since the mid-2010s, and Star Wars has been among the most commercially successful of those partnerships.

The .9999 fineness places it above the traditional British gold sovereign standard of .9167, a specification chosen to compete with bullion-grade collector coins from the Perth and Royal Canadian mints.
