Obverse description The national emblem of Bangladesh occupies the central field, depicting a water lily flanked on either side by upright rice sheaves. Above the central device, tea leaves and four five-pointed stars are arranged in an arc, the stars symbolising the four founding principles enshrined in the 1972 constitution: nationalism, secularism, socialism, and democracy. The emblem is rendered in relief against a plain field with no surrounding legend on the obverse.
