Beuthen an der Oder — not to be confused with the larger Beuthen in Upper Silesia — was a small Oder River town that issued this Notgeld during the fractional currency shortage that gripped Germany after World War I. Flemming-Wiskott A.G. in Glogau was a regional commercial printer, not a specialist banknote firm, which is consistent with the municipal character of these low-denomination emergency pieces. The town itself is now Bytom Odrzański in western Poland, a consequence of the 1945 border shifts.
