Comments

Nöschenrode was an independent municipality adjacent to Wernigerode in the Harz foothills — it was incorporated into Wernigerode in 1929, which is part of why its Notgeld issues are easily overlooked. This 25 Pfennig note belongs to the wave of small-denomination municipal emergency currency that flooded Germany between 1919 and 1922, filling the gap left by a chronic shortage of small Reichs coinage. The watermark is an uncommon security measure at this level of municipal issue; most comparable Gemeindekasse notes from comparable towns skipped it entirely.
