| Obverse description | The obverse features the Imperial German eagle displayed at center, rendered in high relief with spread wings, its breast bearing the quartered Hohenzollern shield. The eagle is surmounted by a royal crown and flanked by elaborate foliate scrollwork at the base. The circular legend reads 'DEUTSCHES REICH' with the date '1909' arranged around the periphery, separated by small ornamental stops. The design, engraved by Paul Sturm, reflects the bold Art Nouveau-influenced heraldic style characteristic of Wilhelmine coinage. |
