Obverse description The Imperial German eagle displayed at center, facing left, with spread wings and detailed heraldic shield on breast bearing the Hohenzollern arms. The eagle is set within a beaded rectangular frame flanked by laurel branches on either side. The date 1908 appears divided across the upper field, with the digits flanking the imperial crown at top. The mint mark D appears in the lower exergue below the frame. The overall design is rendered in high relief with fine detail characteristic of Karl Goetz's medallic style.
