| Additional information |
Werne an der Lippe issued notgeld coinage during the acute metal shortages of World War I, when the imperial government progressively withdrew silver and then copper from circulation for war production. Iron filled the gap across hundreds of German municipalities, each issuing their own authorized emergency pieces. The Funck reference places this among a documented series, meaning at least one die variety distinction exists within Werne's issues alone.
