| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in black on a pale green underprint and carries an ornate oval cartouche at centre, framed by an elaborate Art Nouveau letterpress border with scrollwork corner motifs and the denomination numeral '25' repeated in each corner. Within the cartouche, four lines of German verse in Gothic blackletter script are followed by the place name 'Elgersburg im Walde' with the credit '(Atz vom Rhyn)'; below, a validity clause states redemption terms at the Bank für Thüringen A.-G. in Ilmenau, the issue date 'Bad Elgersburg, den 8. August 1921', the issuing authority 'Elgersburger Ritterschaft', and the manuscript signature of the Burggraf Kleeberg. The printer's imprint 'WILH. LEOPOLD, ILMENAU' appears in the bottom margin. |

| Reverse description | The reverse is printed in multicolour letterpress and presents a large central vignette of Elgersburg Castle perched atop a wooded hillside, rendered in fine line engraving with green, brown, and ochre tones. At left and right flanking the castle view stand two armoured medieval knights in full plate armour, each carrying a halberd or staff. In the lower centre, a decorative ribbon scroll inscribed 'Die Elgersburg' arches over two heraldic shields — one in red bearing six-pointed stars and one in green bearing the monogram 'E.R.' — framing a circular guilloche rosette between them. The denomination '25 PFENNIGE' is set in a panel at the base, while the title 'Notgeld der Elgersburger Ritterschaft' and the denomination '25 Pf.' in diamond cartouches appear along the upper border. |
