| Obverse description | Multicolour Notgeld vignette in blue, yellow and red, signed in the upper left corner by the artist Ebon Tschirch. The upper portion carries a scroll banner bearing the word PFENNIG in Gothic lettering, beneath which a Low German dialect verse is inscribed in blackletter script. A large numeral '25' occupies the centre against a radiating sky of blue and yellow streaks, while the lower half presents a rural ploughing scene with a farmer guiding a horse-drawn plough across a field. A ribbon at the foot reads the validity legend, and the issuing authority inscription with manuscript signatures runs along the bottom margin. |

Laage is a small town in Mecklenburg, and like hundreds of German municipalities it issued its own Notgeld during the postwar currency collapse. What sets this note apart slightly is the designer credit: Ebon Tschirch was a Rostock-born painter and graphic artist with a genuine regional reputation, not a jobbing commercial illustrator. His involvement in local Notgeld commissions was not unusual for the period — many artists took the work seriously, treating the small format as a legitimate graphic commission rather than a wartime stopgap.
Mecklenburg Notgeld from this tier of small issuer tends to survive in quantity, as most was collected rather than spent.
