Hamm's 1921 Notgeld issue belongs to the dense wave of municipal emergency money produced across Westphalia as the Reichsbank struggled to keep denominations in circulation during the postwar inflation spiral. Stadt Hamm — an industrial rail junction in the Ruhr region — issued multiple series during this period, and the Gra#568 sequence reflects that layered output. The .4-5/12 suffix indicates a specific sub-variant within the series, likely distinguished by a date, signature, or serial block rather than a design change.
Westphalian municipal Notgeld of this type was printed in enormous quantities and redeemed quickly, which paradoxically makes well-used examples harder to find than uncirculated remainders.
