Paderborn's 1921 Notgeld issue was one of thousands of municipal emergency notes produced during the postwar inflationary spiral, when small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from everyday commerce. What distinguishes this particular piece is its printer: Gebrüder Parcus of Munich was among the more sought-after Notgeld printers of the period, known for finer lithographic work than many municipal contracts demanded.
Designer P. Michels is credited in the margin — an unusual level of attribution for a 25 Pfennig note of this type. Parcus retained several named designers for civic commissions during the Notgeld boom years.
