| Obverse description | The obverse is laid out in black letterpress on a cream-toned ground, with a dotted border framing the entire note. To the right, an oval vignette presents a portrait bust of Elisabeth von Braunschweig-Lüneburg, last Duchess of Geldern (†1572), rendered in fine engraved style with an elaborate headdress and period dress; a cartouche below the portrait carries her name and title. To the left, the issuer heading 'STADT GELDERN' appears in bold capitals within a decorative panel, below which the denomination '25 Pfennig.' is set in large bold type, accompanied by the text 'Für diesen Gutschein zahlen alle Städt. Kassen' and the date 'Geldern, den 30. März 1921.' with the Bürgermeister's manuscript signature. |

| Reverse description | The reverse carries the city arms of Geldern at left — an engraved vignette within an arched frame showing a castle above a rampant lion on a floral ground — beneath which the inscription 'GELDERN' appears in a banner. To the upper right, the denomination '25' is set within a bold oval cartouche flanked by 'Pfg.' on either side. The central text block, in German, states the conditions of acceptance and validity of the Notgeld, and a serial number in red numerals is printed in a scroll-form panel at lower right, with the printer's imprint 'Schleicher & Schüll, Düren.' at the bottom right margin. |
