Saupersdorf is a small village in the Vogtland district of Saxony, and its appearance on notgeld is entirely typical of the 1921 municipal small-change crisis, when even the most minor German parishes issued their own fractional emergency currency to compensate for a severe shortage of coins. The Girokasse — a local giro savings institution rather than a proper bank — had just enough standing to issue and guarantee small notes of this kind.

At 48 × 34 mm, this is among the smaller notgeld formats produced during the period, which makes the guilloche underprint a slightly surprising security investment for what was essentially village scrip.
