Comments

Nachterstedt is a small mining settlement in Saxony-Anhalt, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1921, it issued low-denomination Notgeld to plug the coin shortage that had persisted since the war. The 25 Pfennig notes of this series fall within the later "Serienscheine" phase — produced with enough graphic ambition to attract collectors even at the time of issue, a fact the municipalities were not unaware of. Some deliberately printed short runs to generate revenue from philatelists rather than from actual commerce.
