Pößneck is a small textile and porcelain manufacturing town in the Saale-Orla district of Thuringia, and this Notgeld issue dates from the acute coin shortage of 1921, when German municipalities were still printing their own low-denomination scrip two years after the armistice. The Johannes Arndt press in Jena handled a considerable volume of Thuringian municipal Notgeld during this period — a regional printer serving regional needs, nothing more exotic than that.
The .2 suffix in the DeNG reference indicates a recognized variety within the series, distinguishing it from at least one other known printing state of the same denomination.
