Comments

Kaltennordheim is a small town in the Rhön highlands, and this 25 Pfennig note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept German municipalities in 1920 as coin shortages persisted well beyond the armistice. The Wiedemannsche Druckerei in Saalfeld handled Notgeld contracts for numerous Thuringian communities during this period — their output was competent and consistent, which makes individual municipal issues from this printer difficult to distinguish at a glance without checking the issuing authority text.

The single signatory, Hehnbold, was almost certainly a local municipal official rather than a bank officer — Kaltennordheim had no independent banking institution of note at the time.
