Comments

Krefeld's postwar Kleingeldscheine were a direct response to the Reichsbank's inability to keep low-denomination coinage in circulation — metal hoarding and wartime requisitioning had left German municipalities scrambling to fill the gap themselves. Carl Schleicher & Schüll, a Düren paper mill with deep roots in the banknote and security printing trade, supplied the stock for much of this regional Notgeld production, which accounts for the consistent paper quality seen across many Rhineland issues of 1920.

Oberbürgermeister A. Johansen's signature anchors the note's municipal authority. Krefeld, a textile manufacturing center, issued multiple denominations under this series.
