The upper register carries a full-width title band reading 'Notgeld des Höhenluftkurortes Benneckenstein im Harz'; at centre is a shield-shaped vignette with a figure of St. Laurentius, patron saint of miners and smelters, flanked by the legend 'St. Laurentius, Schutzheilliger der Berg- und Hüttenleute' and by denomination cartouches reading '25 PFENNIG' at left and right.
