| Obverse description | Green and black Notgeld note printed over a full-field eagle-patterned underprint. The central motif is the municipal coat of arms of Freienwalde — a heraldic shield bearing a large oak tree with exposed roots, flanked by two subsidiary shields each charged with a spoked wheel. Denomination numerals '25' in red occupy quatrefoil ornamental cartouches at left and right, each captioned 'PFG.', while an authorization text in German Fraktur script traverses the upper register and the issuing authority inscription with a manuscript signature of Der Magistrat appears at foot. |

Freienwalde an der Oder issued this Notgeld piece in 1918, the same year Germany's small-change shortage reached its worst point — wartime metal requisitioning had gutted the coinage supply, and municipalities across Prussia were left to fill the gap themselves. City-issued paper Kleingeldscheine of this type carried no guarantee beyond local trust and the issuing authority's willingness to redeem them.
Freienwalde was a modest spa town on the Oder, not an industrial center, so its Notgeld series was practical rather than decorative — the elaborate collector-targeted issues came later, in 1920–21.
