Additional information

The "Patacón" nickname refers to the old Spanish colonial eight-reales coin — the piece of eight — which circulated so heavily throughout the Americas that it became the de facto trade currency across much of the hemisphere for two centuries. Argentina's inclusion of it in the Ibero-American series acknowledges a monetary lineage that predates the republic itself by generations. The series, jointly coordinated among Ibero-American mints since 1991, rotates thematic focus across member nations.

The 2010 Argentine issue was produced at the Casa de Moneda in Buenos Aires, which has operated continuously since 1881.
