Obverse description Bare-headed, bearded effigy of King Alfonso XII facing right, rendered in high relief with finely engraved hair and short beard characteristic of the third portrait type. The truncation of the neck is clean and unadorned. The circular legend reads ALFONSO XII POR LA G· DE DIOS around the upper periphery, with the mint date 1884 appearing in the lower exergual area flanked by two small stars containing the assayer initials. The whole is enclosed within a beaded border.
