The United States of the Ionian Islands was a British protectorate established by the Treaty of Paris in 1815 — which creates an immediate problem with this coin's 1814 date. It was struck in anticipation of the formal protectorate before the treaty was signed, making it one of the few British colonial issues produced ahead of the legal framework that authorized it.
The KM#19 attribution places this among the heavier silver issues of the series, which saw limited circulation given the islands' deeply embedded Venetian monetary traditions. Locals remained attached to the Venetian gazetta well into the protectorate period.
