Additional information

The 1977 Silver Jubilee crown was issued to mark Elizabeth II's twenty-fifth year on the throne — a reign that had begun under post-war austerity and reached its midpoint during IMF bailouts and widespread industrial unrest. The commemorative cupro-nickel version was sold for face value in enormous quantities, making the silver proof a deliberate exercise in tiered collecting, produced specifically for the numismatic market rather than any pretense of circulation.

The .925 specification matches traditional sterling, though the piece was never legal tender in any practical sense. KM#920a distinguishes it from the base-metal issue sharing the same dies.
