Obverse description The obverse features Arnold Machin's celebrated second portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted as a right-facing draped bust wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the upper left periphery, with D·G·REGINA continuing along the upper right, all in raised Latin lettering. The date 1971 appears in the lower field beneath the truncation of the bust. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and jewels of the tiara, characteristic of Machin's refined classical style.

Reverse description The reverse presents a finely detailed, high-relief depiction of a Barbary macaque (Macaca sylvanus), the iconic wild primate of the Rock of Gibraltar, shown seated in three-quarter left profile atop a rocky surface. The animal is rendered with naturalistic precision, its muscular form and facial features executed with considerable sculptural quality by Christopher Ironside. The legend · GIBRALTAR · is inscribed along the upper periphery, while the denomination 25 NEW PENCE curves around the lower portion of the field, flanked by raised pellet stops. The composition fills the field generously, with the macaque dominating the central design.
