Obverse description The obverse is printed in dark red and black on a cream paper ground with a fine wavy-line underprint. A central diamond-shaped vignette, set within a decorative guilloche frame, carries an expressionist woodcut-style scene of Reinold, the Haimonskind, astride a rearing horse and accompanied by a second figure — a reference to the medieval legend associated with the Dortmund region. The denomination "25" appears in large ornate numerals within circular cartouches at left and right, while the title "Fünfundzwanzig Mark" is inscribed in bold Gothic script across the upper portion. Below the vignette, the issuing text names the municipal and district treasuries of Dortmund and Hörde, the place and date "Dortmund am 10. Oktober 1922" appear in a decorated panel, and two manuscript signatures flank an official circular seal of the Magistrat der Stadt Dortmund.

Reverse description The reverse is executed in the same two-colour palette of dark red and black on a cream wavy-line underprint ground. A central hexagonal vignette, signed by the artist L. Powermann in the lower right corner, presents an idyllic nocturnal rural landscape with a bridge, cottage, large stylised tree bearing a medallion, a shepherd with goats, and smoking industrial chimneys in the background — juxtaposing the pastoral and industrial character of the Ruhr region. Denomination medallions with "25 Mark" occupy the left and right fields, and four interlaced ribbon banners arranged diagonally around the vignette carry a regional folk verse in Gothic script. The printer's imprint "West-Werk, Dortmund" appears beneath the central vignette.
