Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, this coin commemorates the body convened by Mustafa Kemal in Ankara on April 23, 1920 — a direct political counter to the Ottoman government in Istanbul, which was then operating under Allied occupation. The Assembly functioned as both a legislative chamber and a war council during the Turkish War of Independence, conducting military campaigns while simultaneously drafting the legal framework that would abolish the sultanate three years later.
