Additional information

Murad V reigned for just 93 days in 1876 before being deposed on grounds of mental incapacity — making any coinage struck in his name among the shortest-reign issues in Ottoman numismatics. His removal followed a period of extraordinary political upheaval: two sultans had been deposed within months, Abdülaziz dying under disputed circumstances shortly after his own ouster. The new Constitutional movement that had backed Murad quickly transferred its hopes to Abdülhamid II when Murad proved unable to function.

Mintage figures for this type are poorly documented, and surviving examples are scarce relative to comparable issues from longer reigns.
