Issued to mark the twentieth anniversary of Czechoslovakia's liberation from Nazi occupation at the end of World War II, this coin was produced under the Státní banka československá during a relatively stable interlude before the political turbulence of 1968. The .500 fine silver content reflects the broader Eastern Bloc practice of reducing precious metal fineness in commemorative issues while maintaining the appearance of silver coinage — a fiscal compromise that became standard across Warsaw Pact minting programs through the 1960s.
