Obverse description Bare-headed, bearded effigy of Emperor Alexander III facing right, with finely rendered hair and full beard in high relief. The truncation of the neck is plain and unadorned. A Cyrillic legend encircles the field close to the dentilated border, reading the imperial titles of the sovereign. A six-petalled rosette serves as a stop mark at the base of the legend.

Reverse description The Imperial Russian double-headed eagle occupies the central field, displayed with wings spread, each head surmounted by a small crown and the whole surmounted by a large Imperial crown with ribbons. The eagle's breast bears a quartered shield with the arms of the Russian Empire, and the talons clutch an orb and sceptre. The denomination in Cyrillic numerals and the date appear in a curved legend along the lower portion of the field, all within a dentilated border.
