Comments

Steinbach am Ziehberg is a small Upper Austrian village, and this 25 Heller note is a product of the notgeld wave that swept Austria after the First World War — small municipalities printing their own emergency small-change paper when coin shortages made daily commerce nearly impossible. The engraver credit to L. Haase of Linz places production squarely in the regional capital rather than Vienna, typical for Upper Austrian parish-level issues of this period.

The Jaksc/Pick reference JPR1024-25.2 indicates a second type within the 25 Heller denomination for this issuer — meaning Steinbach produced at least two distinct versions, a detail worth noting given how small the community was.
