Comments

Gries am Brenner sits at the foot of the Brenner Pass in the Tyrolean Alps, and the 25 Heller notgeld issued here in 1920 is a direct product of the coin shortage that gripped Austria in the immediate postwar years. The collapse of the Habsburg economy left municipal governments scrambling to fill the gap at the smallest denominations, and hundreds of Austrian communities issued their own emergency paper — Gries among them.

The Jaksc/Pick IIb designation indicates a second series variant, suggesting at least two distinct printings were authorized by the municipality.
