Hargelsberg is a small commune in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similar municipalities it issued Notgeld during the post-WWI period when small-denomination coinage had all but vanished from circulation. The Heller series from this parish are among the more locally produced examples — signed by Josef Edlmaier, who served as Bürgermeister, giving the note its legal validity under the issuing authority's seal rather than any banking institution.
The Jaksc catalogue reference places this firmly within the Upper Austrian municipal series. Redemption was typically promised for a short window; many communes quietly let that obligation lapse.
