De Curaçaosche Bank has issued Curaçao's currency independently since 1828, making it one of the oldest continuously operating central banks in the Western Hemisphere — though since 2010 it shares monetary authority with Sint Maarten under the Caribbean guilder framework. This note honors Pedro Luis Brión, the Curaçaoan-born admiral who financed and commanded naval forces for Simón Bolívar's independence campaigns, funding much of the operation from his own considerable merchant fortune.
Matej Gabris, the Slovak designer responsible for much of this series, produced work that won international banknote design awards during this period.
