| Obverse description | A stylized sawfish (Taku), a traditional symbol of prosperity, is depicted centrally in the field, oriented vertically and bisecting the large numeral denomination '25 FRANCS' inscribed across the center. The legend 'INSTITUT D'EMISSION' arcs along the upper periphery, while 'AFRIQUE OCCIDENTALE FRANCAISE · TOGO' curves along the lower periphery. The word 'ESSAI' appears in the lower field beneath the denomination, identifying this piece as a trial strike. The overall design is rendered in a bold, high-relief Art Deco-influenced style characteristic of mid-twentieth century French colonial coinage. |
