Additional information

The FAO series designation ties this issue to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's decades-long campaign to have member nations embed agricultural themes into their circulating coinage — a program that peaked in the 1970s but left a long tail of affiliated issues well into the 21st century. The Comoros, an archipelago dependent on subsistence farming, vanilla, and ylang-ylang exports, had practical reasons to maintain the affiliation beyond symbolism alone.

KM#14a distinguishes the stainless steel composition from earlier iterations of the same denomination struck in different alloys.
