| Obverse description | The obverse reproduces the celebrated 1876 medal design by engravers G. Barber and Augustin Dupré, depicting two allegorical figures in a classical tableau. At left, a seated Native American figure wearing a feathered headdress and draped in a cloth gestures toward a standing female figure representing Liberty or Commerce, who extends an olive branch or cornucopia. A palm tree laden with fruit rises between them, flanked by a barrel and an anchor at lower left suggesting trade and maritime commerce. The legend TO PEACE AND COMMERCE. arcs around the upper field, with RF and the date IV JUL. MDCCLXXVI. inscribed in the exergue. The denomination 25 EURO and engravers' signatures G. BARBER. and DUPRE.F. appear along the lower rim. |
