| Obverse description | The Portuguese national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the traditional shield charged with five small escutcheons in cross formation each bearing five bezants, surrounded by a bordure of seven castles, all enclosed within the larger national shield. The denomination '25$00' appears in large numerals along the lower portion of the field, flanked on each side by a small floral ornament. The circular legend 'REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA' runs along the upper periphery, engraved by Marcelino Norte de Almeida. |
