| Obverse description | The Portuguese national coat of arms, depicting the traditional shield charged with five escutcheons in cross formation each bearing five bezants, surrounded by a border of seven castles, is displayed prominently in the lower central field. Behind and above the shield rises a stylized wave or flame motif, evoking the spirit of national renewal associated with the Carnation Revolution.
