Additional information

Jamaica issued this piece for the 1984 Los Angeles Games, the first Summer Olympics the country had attended since the politically fractured 1976 Montreal Games — Jamaica had boycotted Moscow in 1980 alongside the broader U.S.-led coalition protesting the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Los Angeles itself was then boycotted by the Soviet bloc, meaning Jamaica competed in an unusually thinned field.

At 136 grams, this is among the heaviest crown-sized issues Jamaica ever produced. The relatively small mintage typical of Jamaican commemorative silver from this period means most survivors show no circulation wear whatsoever.
