Hutt River Province — the self-declared micronation in Western Australia that seceded from Australia in 1970 under Leonard George Casley, who styled himself Prince Leonard I — issued a stream of bullion and commemorative pieces throughout the 1980s and 1990s targeting the collector market directly. This M60A3 issue belongs to a series of military vehicle coins with no connection to Hutt River's actual territory or defence capacity, produced entirely as numismatic merchandise.
The M60A3 itself was the last operational variant of the M60 series, upgraded with thermal night-vision and a solid-state ballistic computer before being phased out of U.S. front-line service in the early 1990s — precisely when this coin was struck.
