| Reverse description | Central composition depicting a young boy, selectively gold-plated, seated astride a large ox, also gold-plated, striding toward the right across a stylized landscape. The boy raises a whip in his right hand, its cord arcing upward toward a spray of peony blossoms rendered in silver relief in the upper left of the field. Rocks, grass, and foliage occupy the lower left foreground in fine engraved detail. The Chinese character 牛 (ox) appears in the upper right field, and the date 2009 is inscribed along the lower exergue. The contrast between the gold-plated central motif and the frosted silver relief background creates a striking bichromatic effect characteristic of this commemorative series. |
