Issued to mark the 25th anniversary of Elizabeth II's coronation, this was part of a wave of Commonwealth commemoratives that flooded the market in 1978. Barbados had only established its own central bank in 1972, six years after independence, so the institution was barely a decade old when this piece was authorized — making it among the earlier substantive silver issues from Bridgetown.
