Additional information

Belize gained independence from Britain in 1981, meaning this coin was struck while the territory was still British Honduras in all but name — the country had only been renamed Belize in 1973, though formal sovereignty remained three years away. The coronation subject in 1978 was already 25 years old, making this a silver jubilee commemorative of the 1953 coronation rather than any contemporary event.

KM#54 was part of a broader Franklin Mint program for Belize during this period, when the mint aggressively contracted with smaller nations to produce collector-oriented silver issues.
