Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's holiday-themed collector series, this piece was struck in .9999 fine silver — a purity level the RCM adopted aggressively in the 2000s to differentiate its collector output from the .999 standard common elsewhere. The Christmas Ornament issues from this period were sold in packaging designed to allow the coin to function as a tree decoration, a retail strategy that pushed these pieces well outside the traditional collector market and into gift shop territory.
