Additional information

The China Clipper was the Pan American Airways Martin M-130 flying boat that inaugurated transpacific airmail service in November 1935, departing Alameda, California for Manila across a string of Pacific island stops including Wake, Guam, and Midway. Passenger service followed in 1936. The Solomon Islands had no operational or geographic connection to the Clipper routes — this is a licensed commemorative issue capitalizing on Pacific aviation nostalgia rather than any local historical event.
