Additional information

This piece is part of the Royal Canadian Mint's ongoing push into ultra-fine .9999 silver bullion, a purity standard the RCM has aggressively promoted since the early 2010s as a differentiator against the .999 fine American Silver Eagle. The plains bison, nearly exterminated by the 1880s from an estimated population of 30 to 60 million, was the subject of a quiet but consequential cross-border conservation effort — surplus Yellowstone bison have been transferred to Canadian Indigenous-managed lands under agreements between Parks Canada and First Nations beginning in the 2010s, representing the first wild bison restoration in the country in over a century.
